1- What do you understand under feeling lost?
You are feeling lost when you don’t have a goal to reach or when you don’t know which step to take next. Also, it is about not knowing if a decision you are about to take is right or not.
2- Please, describe a specific situation when you felt that way?
There was a time when I wrote applications to universities and I actually got accepted at my favorite university in Hamburg, Germany.
I had already planned and prepared everything for my new life over there. But then, just about one month before actually moving to this new city, I received a call from them. They told me that it was finally not possible for me to study at that university due to some specific regulations in that state.
It was a difficult time for me. I had already arranged a flat to live in and my mindset was build upon the previous positive answer from the admissions staff. Still, they canceled it.
No matter if I did everything right or wrong, I couldn’t do anything about it. I was powerless. There was nothing I did wrong and still that was what happened.
In my case, I didn’t talk about it because I felt ashamed of it. I already told everybody that I was moving to Hamburg and I even showed off a little bit saying “Look at me, I’ve done it! I am going to start the studies that I always wanted to do”.
So it was hard and I rather wanted to keep it quiet while trying to find something new. For me, it’s simply much easier to share the positive parts of life.
3- What helped you to overcome or to deal with those moments?
Time & taking action
Personally, I felt that there was no special way to get out of this situation. Time simply went by and I lifted my ass up again. I began to write new applications and that’s it.
4- Which lesson or result did you get out of this challenging time?
Never give up on what you want to do. If something has to be changed due to external reasons, that’s what you have to do.
5- What could be done to help somebody who is feeling lost?
Maybe it would be easier if everybody saw that there are other people going through similar situations.
When you hear about a story that you can relate to, you’re like “YES! I know how that feels like!”. Chances are that tons of other human beings have gone through a similar situation.
