1- What do you understand under feeling lost?
Feeling lost is about not knowing where you stand or belong in life at that moment.
2- Please, describe a specific situation when you felt that way.
After high school was when I started to feel lost. I always knew I wanted to become a teacher so after finishing college and going away to teach, I was smacked in the face when deep down I had a feeling that this wasn’t actually the kind of career I wanted.
After meeting my husband we decided to follow our dream and travel in search of a place to open up a hostel. When we couldn’t find anywhere that we would be happy to call home I felt completely lost, insecure and really down about myself.
I relate the feeling of being lost mostly to my career.
Every one of my friends seems to have it all figured out. Being 35 and still not having a career has made me very insecure about who I am and what I should be doing.
Until now 🙂 I’m not saying I have it figured out but I’m on a path creating my own store and I feel good about it.
Having a kid has completely changed my view on many things too and I’ve realized that working at an office with three weeks off a year and living for the weekends WILL NOT EVER make me feel satisfied or happy. And it’s not about what I SHOULD be doing, it’s about what I WANT to be doing.
My happiness is different than everyone else and I needed to learn to respect what makes me happy. No matter how different it is.
3- Which three tools helped you to overcome or to deal with those moments?
- The blog “It Takes Grit” by Rebecca Louise is fantastic. She is a Youtube trainer and her story is incredible and will make you want to keep going.
- The book, “You are a Badass” by Jen Sincere.
- And just being positive with myself and knowing that I will find my place.
4- Which main lesson or result did you get out of those more challenging times?
I have come to learn and realize that if I wasn’t lost I would never have had the experiences I have been blessed in having. I would never have traveled the world, met amazing people, had amazing experiences and tried many different jobs. If I wasn’t lost I would probably be working at a job that I got after University and not be satisfied with life. Being lost has helped me figure out who I am and what I want and need in life 🙂
5- What could be done to help somebody who is feeling lost?
That person could try appreciating the fact that he/she is lost and he/she has the freedom to EXPLORE who he/she is and wants to be.
