1- What do you understand under feeling lost?
Feeling lost means imagining oneself in a nearby future and not being able to build a clear image of what your life will look like by then. Also, it is related to a sensation of not being on the right path in order to achieve your ideal image.
However, to feel lost you need to have some kind of desire to find your purpose. Some people just do not see any problem with uncertainty about the future and that is why they are less likely familiar with feeling lost.
Normally, a routine that makes us feel happy and productive makes this restless desire disappear.
2- Please, describe a specific situation when you felt that way.
The time I felt most lost was after leaving a degree that I knew wasn’t meant for me. Then, I asked myself what I wanted to dedicate my life to but I was not able to give a clear answer to this question.
Even now I would say that I do not have a complete answer to this question but I am aware of what I like and what is needed to achieve living out of what I enjoy.
3- What helped you to overcome or to deal with those moments?
Being OK with feeling lost
Accepting that it is normal to feel lost helped me tremendously. There is no need for me to have everything figured out. I thought about what I enjoy doing and what I could do to live from it.
Sport and a routine
Physical activity and structuring my day were an important key to stop feeling lost.
This scene from Benjamin Button
There is a point in this movie which reflects upon the importance to be conscious about time. It is never too late to be whoever you want to be.
4- Which lessons or result did you get out of those more challenging moments?
An important lesson that I learned back then came from my father: “It is more important to give the best you can at everything you do than it is to find your dream job (even more so if you are young)”.
When I notice that I am losing my time and that I am not getting closer to my goals, then I need to change my routine. However, it is not about directly finding the perfect routine.
5- Why did feeling lost become such a common experience nowadays?
From my point of view, feeling lost has always been a common experience but many prefer not to recognize it. Nowadays we are more open towards these topics and, therefore, people share what they are feeling more than before. In this way, it is made clear that feeling lost is a totally normal experience.
6- What could be done to help somebody who is feeling lost?
Most importantly, making that person understand that it is part of life, no matter how lost he/she might be.
Then, know that time does not play against us as we tend to imagine. We have time to think and make mistakes 1000 times.
Besides, since you told me about your project, Samwhere, I cannot think of a better way to help somebody who’s feeling lost. It proves that there is nothing wrong with her/him.
